Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
Abnormal uterine bleeding is vaginal bleeding originating from the uterus that can be described as abnormal based on frequency, irregularity, length, or heaviness of flow in comparison to a normal monthly period. Abnormal bleeding can present as heavy periods or prolonged bleeding, or it can present as bleeding that is irregular in timing, such periods that are too frequent. Some women have the opposite issue with too few periods or the complete absence of periods. Abnormal bleeding is usually either a structural issue or hormonal issue. Structural causes include fibroids, polyps, adenomyosis, or possibly a pre-cancer or cancer. Bleeding from hormonal issues can have a wide range of causes, as all 50+ hormones that our body makes can interact with each other and lead to issues when an imbalance occurs. Evaluation for abnormal bleeding typically consists of a detailed history and physical along with ultrasound imaging and laboratory testing.

Pelvic Pain Evaluation
Pelvic pain is described as pain in the lower abdomen and between the hips. Pain can be described as sharp, dull, crampy, or pressure. It can be constant, intermittent, or radiating. It can originate from the digestive, reproductive, or urinary systems. It can also be caused by muscular or ligament strain, or spasm and/or nerve irritation. It can be associated with other symptoms such as vaginal bleeding, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, painful urination, pain with sex, and depression or anxiety. Determining the cause requires a detailed history and physical exam and typically also requires imaging with ultrasound or possibly CT or MRI.
